PREPARATIONS
12 June 2009.
At Ears, we are working hard on putting together a custom designed system to control and recall our settings on the analogue tower, consisting of Blenkinsopp’s custom-made gadgetry.
At this stage, Alan (far right) is daisy chaining a bunch of applications on the computer to solely be able to recall the analogue box settings with voltage input to kick in the effects on Justin’s(left) keyboard while Blenkinsopp is having a listen.
In the meantime, rehearsals continue for songs beyond and from the Map of the Universe.
“One of the technical goals for the live KiNo shows is to apply the precise control over recall and automation offered by DAWs to analogue hardware parameters that normally respond only to control voltage or human intervention. It has been an immensely rewarding challenge to program an effective interface between the digital world (using DAWs and MIDI) and the analogue world (control voltage for custom-built outboard gear). Because the MIDI is only used to control filters, step sequences, and other effects applied to live audio, the integrity of the music is preserved in a live and analogue format. It’s the best of both worlds! (–Justin, June 2009)”
